The Art of Being Selfish
My project focused on analyzing my emotions via visual media in order to best explain my personal philosophy. The questions that drove my project through its completion were,
“How does living for yourself reflect upon your relationships with your own emotions?”
“What are the best ways to demonstrate my emotions through a visual means?”
“How can I represent my visual media product in a method that is meaningful to me?”
I was inspired to create a social media account by my friend Lois Mcmaster, who taught me the importance of social media. It is the easiest way to connect with people across the planet. Instagram taught me how to network, and it taught me about how to find different people with similar interests and blogs.
I discovered a lot about a lot during this project :). I learned that I never really want to work for anybody, I do my best work when I am on my own. I found that when I put my mind to a project that I am passionate about, I am able to do anything. I visualized my own emotions through photography in this project! I am able to do work, when I am not focused on work.I want to live my life this way, when I am so committed to my work, that it doesn’t even feel like something with a grade, or a dollar amount, or a deadline attached to it.
Now it's time for networking! I have a very good start on instagram, and now it is time for me to make my account more well known. I have the best excuse to pursue my philosophical points through photography! When I need to make a statement, or start something new, I have a medium to do it on, and I feel so good about that. It’s time for me to bring in guest photographers, and guest models! This project also sparked some philosophical questions for me to figure out over the course of my life…
“What about everybody's personal experiences makes human connection so complex?”
“How could people be driven to live for anybody but themselves?”
“How do different societies drive people to shape their own worldviews?”
“How does sense of place affect the way that we see the world?”
“How does living for yourself reflect upon your relationships with your own emotions?”
“What are the best ways to demonstrate my emotions through a visual means?”
“How can I represent my visual media product in a method that is meaningful to me?”

Hello everybody!
For this presentation, you will need to be seated next to a person with the Instagram application installed on their phone.
I designed this project around the idea that emotions change the way that we react with the world.
Every single human being on earth has shaped their own personal universe through experience, and the way that their emotions affect their actions. I live in a completely different universe than anybody else in this room. That is the way our brains were made to operate. Our brains are pretty cool, they take experience, environmental influences, and emotion to shape the way that we see the world.
I contain within me an entire universe. And that makes me pretty damn cool.
That is why I titled my project ‘The Art of Being Selfish’, being selfish, in this sense, means living with the recognition that every person contains within them a world that is completely different from yours. I will never be truly capable of seeing any universe other than my own…
Because human beings are capable of both creating a universe, and incapable of understanding another’s universe. That makes human beings selfish, but not in a bad way. This set of contradictions (creating a universe, and the incapability of understanding any other universe) gives human beings a trait that in my opinion, separates us from every other species on the planet.
Human beings have the capability to live for themselves. We are capable of live separated from the ideals and morals of every other human being that we meet! The universe inside of me recognizes the universe inside of you.
My project basically takes the emotional foundations of my universe, and translates them into pictures. I used tools that have been invented by the 21st century, to make a highly visible way to see how I interact with my universe via emotion.
Everybody with an instagram account, please disconnect from the school wifi, and go to the account called @quinn.sform
As you can see, I have several emotions visualized through photography. Every photo shoot that I did is also paired with a song, in order to give you all the best emotional context possible.
Please click on the latest photo shoot, and I will play the corresponding song, and hopefully, you will all understand which direction I took this project!
PLAY TRANQUILITY SHOOT / JULY BONES
I encourage you all to think about how you interact with the universe that you live in. If you liked my project, please follow my account, because I will definitely be continuing my emotional documentation process.
Thank you, and enjoy the rest of the exhibition!

Deconstructing America...
At the beginning of the year, we read a document called "Willing to be Disturbed", the document was confusing at first, and I didn't understand why my teacher wanted us to start our year with such a confusing idea...
If you took the time to read 'Willingness to be Disturbed' then maybe you can begin to understand the complexity of the project.
Our final product concerned a black and white issue. It became clear that our class had some very different political ideologies, I am pre-registered for the green party for example, whereas some of my classmates are libertarian, or republican...
It was not the goal of the project to find labels, but it is hard not to see the obvious biases that we had... Deconstructing America worked on removing our biases, and understanding both sides of our country. We began by taking apart our political ideologies, I have an ideology that almost matches Noam Chomsky's, I believe in high levels of personal and political freedoms, but I believe that a strictly regulated economy is important to a countries well being...
Our project consisted of 5 final pieces (posted below), and in order to write them, we each had to choose a 'black and white issue', my issue was concerning the recent legislation in Indiana that allows people to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community.
